Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

Just curious, how much additional error is introduced in each macrocreation iteration? Will it scale up at the same rate, or will we be seeing exponential increases? nicholas.seward Wrote:...

If the bed were on a turntable, you could maximize the 3:4 design?

Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

@nicholas LOL my math is a bit off. At these rate, it won't be too long we need carbon nanotube structures. Turntable ? That's look like 3D scanner. jason.fisher Wrote:...

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

@BloodBlight: so, a completely gear-driven design? That could add rigidity/stability, sure. Why do you feel it would be "backlash free"? I would think switching from belts/lines to gears would tend to...

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

I need to hack a 3D printer together so I can make prototype bearingless Simpson's on the cheap. 3D printer part quote: This past weekend I got a quote for the upper arm using makeXYZ.com. It was way...

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

That is a shame that the fee model for 3D printing doesn't promote good design. Low infill is vastly superior to shelled parts. I personally design with the simplest part that does the job and throw...

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

Those on-line printing services are good, but way expensive. I think they worth the cost only in very special items, such as a silver or gold personalized ring or a very rare material like titanium....

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

Herringbone belts might mesh nicely on the faces. Don't have any to test with though. 3 offset laser cut gears face to face would work nice though.

I'm building a wooden H.A.I.B. version of Simpson (made from discarded items), I started a few days ago :) Today I was at the hardware store looking for a timing belt to replace the herringbone gear....

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

One other note. The arms still need to be geared together as they are in this design: [forums.reprap.org] So there would also be some play in those gears (so potential backlash from that).

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

Nicholas, Watching your very cool video, I heard you mention that 5mm bolts are hard to get here in the US. If you have an Ace Hardware store near you, they might have a good supply. I have one about...

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

@JohnSL: I have tried ACE and every other place in town. They have M5 bolts but not much selection and they are way over priced. I have found them to be up to 10x the price of McMaster Carr. In this...

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

Hmmm... I will think about part count. Ether using loner gears and a clip at the end (one printed part and a screw is all it would be) would be easy, but I think a I can come up with an easy and low...
