Rostock with nema 14 possible?

Has anyone tried building a rostock (or derivate) using nema 14 steppers? I have 3 spare ones from a huxley, and it would be nice it it would be possible to reuse them.

TripodMaker - New delta 3D printer

Hello Guys, For the past 6 months I've been working really hard on my own delta 3D printer, called the TripodMaker. The design is based on the well known Kossel from Johann. I focused mainly on...

Re: Rostock with nema 14 possible?

I haven't tried it but I know it would be possible. The NEMA14's I looked at had 1/3rd the torque of a NEMA17. (Note: NEMA14's come in all shapes and sizes and so do NEMA17's. The NEMA17's we use are...

Re: Rostock with nema 14 possible?

I already has some nema 14 motors (rated as 1400 g-cm (20 oz-in) when driven with 1000 mA / 2.7V) so they are much cheaper than anything else... Many of the nema 17 i have seen are speced for higher...

Re: TripodMaker - New delta 3D printer

What tolerance is there on the angle of the brackets, I'd guess 1-2 degrees? Does that cause issues with alignment seeing as they are so rigidly defined? Also on this site we tend to know how much...

Re: TripodMaker - New delta 3D printer

Hi yydoctt, Thanks for your reply. Concerning the tolerances on the brackets: The top and bottom triangle is created out of 3 types of parts: [*] aluminum extrusions - 0.1mm tolerance [*] bottom...

Re: Rostock with nema 14 possible?

I don't know about everyone else but I run my steppers at 90% current. This gives you almost all the power and they run cool. Note: You can run your NEMA14s at 1A unless you are mounting them to...

Re: Rostock with nema 14 possible?

You probably run at 90% of 70% of the motors rating. The rating is for 2 coils on and 80C temperature rise. The Allegro datasheet current calculation for Vref is the one coil on value. The two coil...

Re: Rostock with nema 14 possible?

Great tip! I actually tweak the power until I get the highest steady state temp I will accept. I do mount in PLA so this is important. I will have to do some calculations to see what I am actually...

Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

I am stuck in virtual land. I won't be getting my springs for a while. I moved back to a concentric mount. I am using 6702 bearings for the central hub. I tweaked a lot of the dimensions so I now can...

Re: Rack and Pinion Mini Kossel or Rostock?

if parts are printed good why not. just one detail. in this system motor is often spring loaded to avoid backlash between rack&pinion, because they will wear out. so i suggest to do the same...

Sextupteron

I didn't know where to put this. I am going to assume this is the "Parallel Robots" sub-forum. YOUTUBE CANDY! INVENTOR FILES! This is a variant of the Tripteron and the Quadrupteron. Following that...

Re: Sextupteron

Nicholas, The design seems sufficiently novel, but it has almost nothing to do with the Tripteron/Quadrupteron/Pentapreton family, and is therefore not even protected by the Tripteron patent (if I...

Okay guys, feel free to start a business selling Sextupterons. It is licensed under the GPL meaning that you just have to remain open source yourself. @Ilian: I tried to make a 5DOF version and it...

Reprap Kossel vs Rostock (and the 3Dr?)

Me and my FRC team are thinking about building a 3D printer for our personal use. We are now struggling between the two main options: the Rostock and the Kossel. Right now we haven't found any...

Re: Reprap Kossel vs Rostock (and the 3Dr?)

What does FRC stand for? IMHO all three are good choices. The Rostock and Kossel are well documented and everything that RichRap does is well done. His 3DR Delta 3D printer will be no exception.

Nicholas, thank you for posting this. I downloaded the files and took a quick look in Inventor. Would you also post the iam (assembly) of the complete machine?

Would you recomand picking the Rostock just for saving some cash on the liner rails? And anyway, can someone link us to any site that sells cheap HIWIN rails and carriages for the Kossel? The best...
