Re: Need help setting up new large scale delta 3d printer

I am working on one but I am still in the stages of designing the frame and acquiring all of the parts which shouldnt take too much longer. As for the firmware I am not far enough along to start...

Re: Wavy sides, Repetier, original style Rostock

So much for my brainstorming. Wasn't even a light drizzle. Changed the infill and the wavy edge still persists. Next, I plan on changing the microstepping and seeing if bigger steps changes the size...

Re: 3DR Part Sourcing

Thanks for the info. I thought long and hard about which way I wanted to go. In the end, I decided that, since I like to design things, I'd modify the appropriate parts to use 8mm rods. That way I can...

Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

Here are the new arms. I will be printing them today. I am super happy with the design. They don't look like igloos or boats (much) and I got my extra gear width (40mm from side to side) and my finger...

Re: Wavy sides, Repetier, original style Rostock

More interesting would be this info: * what is the period of waves compared to the pitch of your bets/pulleys * how do the waves change when the printed object is in the center of the bed compared to...

Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

There's one thing that's been bugging me since the start of the gear-based design. I'm not sure we can fix it without breaking the simplicity of the math. The two pairs of mounts have an asymmetric...

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

Have you run any Finite Element Modelling on the arms to check for stress points or model the wear?

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

I am in over engineer mode to make sure there is no chance of failure. Optimization will come later when I have time. I know how to do stress analysis but I am clueless about how to start a wear...

@bluscape why don't you take part in the beta testing? as far as I know there are still some open slots. Nicholas will post the parts when they are finished ( when he will begin building the beta...

Re: Idea: A blacksmith bot based on Simpson

I know I have been banging on about this for some time, but why not use small ball bearings. (ballpoint pen size) and have a bank of capacitors, place each ball and zapp weld to the previous ball....

Re: Idea: A blacksmith bot based on Simpson

Wirebonding, spot welding, and other techniques were discussed quite a bit in this thread a while ago. VDX mentioned some experiments he did with ultrasonic wirebonding and pointed out several...

Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

@Annirak: So with a Wally-like arm drive you get near constant driving torque. With a PGDJ (Proportional Gear Drive Joint) you get a constant driving force on a line of action through the arm ends....

Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

I see Annirak's point and he's right, IMO. I draw a (very ugly) diagram explaining my point of view on that torque issue. And even though, I consider the improvements suggested would make the arm...
