Re: Deltas: Kossel versus Rostock MAX versus Cerberus versus Kossel

[groups.google.com] This is probably the best place for Kossel support at the moment.

Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

Watching the videos of the arm in action again and I can't help but think that this arm/leg design that eventually gives us a workable bot that can walk and print.

QuoteBuytaert I don't know programing, but there's a thing called Parallella that look interesting : [www.parallella.org] I have a couple of those ordered. They certainly have the processing power,...

If we are talking about responding to oscillation, I think the better first focus is on milling techniques that minimize it? The negative of a lightweight head for milling is high oscillation...

Re: New arm design for Simpson style printer.

3M Anti-Slip Tape will be a test substitute for the herringbone gear. The lateral, axial, rotational grip seems adequate. I think a coarse sandpaper could be substituted. 4” inch wide by 12” inch...

Wavy sides, Repetier, original style Rostock

Puzzled newb here. Finally getting respectable prints out of a 2 week old Rostock. I'm having trouble (or not... perhaps I'm being anal...) with the sides of straight prints. In this case, a 25mm cal...

3DR Part Sourcing

Hi, I've built two 3D printers from kits, and now I'd like to build a RichRap 3DR delta printer from scratch. My question is about sourcing of the smooth rods. I have two questions: 1. Do these need...

Re: 3DR Part Sourcing

The smooth rods don't need to be stainless. However, getting hardened rod (not cheap drill rod) is a good idea. Cheap drill rod will end up with grooves in it from the linear bearings, and tends not...

Need help setting up new large scale delta 3d printer

Hey there. I have just finished building the large scale 3d delta style printer, but am having some trouble with firmware setup. I am wondering if there is anyone out there willing to help a new guy....

Re: Wavy sides, Repetier, original style Rostock

It is not related to delta segments per second, the period of the waves is about 3 mm which is too small for that. I read somewhere that small waves can be caused by pulleys which do not match belt....

Re: Wavy sides, Repetier, original style Rostock

I noticed that the wave pattern didn't seem to exist on the bottom few layers... I'm going to print another one today with octagonal infill turned off... I'm thinking perhaps the infill distorted the...

Re: 3DR Part Sourcing

Thanks NewPerfection. Now for my next question. I'm thinking of switching the rods from 6mm to 8mm for two reasons. First, I'm planning to use the parts from my Printrbot Simple to build the 3DR, and...

Re: Rostock Smooth Steel Rods

The cheapest 3/8 linear bearings I have found are from mcmaster and they are $22.14 a piece part #60595k12, So I guess the money saved on inch rods isnt really worth it unless you use brass bushings.

Re: 3DR Part Sourcing

You can get cheap ones from China that usually work pretty well. See: [www.ebay.com] Or VXB has LM6UU's for less than $7 each: [www.vxb.com] Going to 8mm rods and LM8UU's is another option, just make...

Re: Rostock Smooth Steel Rods

You could go with plastic linear bearings for $5. If you are willing to throw some efficiency away, you can use these. I have used these style bearings on my 2'x2'x1' envelope hobby mill for 5 years....

Re: Rostock Smooth Steel Rods

Nicholas.seward do you have any type of wiper on those bearings or do the grooves in the plastic bearing itself wick away the dust and debris? Do you need to apply any oil to the rods? Also could you...

Re: Rostock Smooth Steel Rods

I don't use a wiper. You need the rails to stay dry so lubricant will actual make matters worse. Depending on the load and the rotational speed you might get some chatter from the fins. (I don't think...

Re: Need help setting up new large scale delta 3d printer

Have you thought about adding some structural supports to the frame? I am assuming that you are using 8mm smooth rods and some lm8uu bearings and it looks like the smooth rods are the only support...
